How to Make a Homemade Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit
To make the biscuits:
You can find photos and more information on this biscuit recipe in my Joanna Gaines biscuit post, but the basics are as follows.
Whisk the flour, baking powder, and baking soda together in a large bowl.
Cut the butter into chunks and use your fingers to squish it into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Add the eggs, beaten, and stir until combined.
Add the buttermilk and stir until it forms a dough.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Put the dough onto a floured countertop and use your hands to press it down until it's about 1/2 inch thick.
Using a cookie cutter or the bottom of a cup, cut out the biscuits in circles.
Put the biscuits on the baking sheet so that they are touching.
If desired, mix together any remaining egg and buttermilk and brush on top.
Bake about 18 minutes, until golden brown.
Let cool!
To make the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit:
Cook your bacon, either on the stove or using this technique of cooking bacon in the oven.
With 5 minutes left on the bacon, cut open a biscuit and butter both sides.
Crack 1 or 2 eggs into a frying pan and scramble up with a spatula, then leave it to cook in one piece.
Take out the bacon and place on paper towel to dry.
Compile the sandwich by placing the egg, slice of cheese, and slices of bacon in the middle.
Enjoy!
Can I Substitute Turkey Bacon for Bacon?
Yes, you can use any kind of bacon you want, including vegan bacon if you want to turn this into a vegan-friendly option!
Can I use a Different Kind of Cheese?
The reason this recipe uses American cheese is to replicate the McDonald's bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, but you can use a slice of whatever kind of cheese you want.
It's really better if you use cheese in slices rather than something you have to grate or cut, as the slice will melt easier and that's part of the delicious taste.
Can I Use a Fried Egg?
The egg in this recipe is scrambled to mimic the McDonald's option, but you can totally use a fried egg if you prefer.
What to Serve with Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuits
Often, a homemade bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit can perfectly stand alone as a breakfast option, but if you want to serve a side with it, why not try something a little bit healthier like these blueberry overnight oats or banana overnight oats?
